Places I'd love to see the OHL Expand
I love to see the game of hockey grow, mainly because I love for players who deserve to get the chance to not get passed up on. My issue with the Ontario Hockey League is they won't expand out to Thunder Bay, could say Dryden or Kenora but those are small places but if you ask me I think those two places could thrive with an OHL team. But Thunder Bay would be a crown jewel for the OHL if they had a team. I understand why they wouldn't expand out there being so far away. So that leaves out Northwestern Ontario.
My issue with that is Mike Richards, being from Kenora, once said he didn't know if he was going to be drafted by the OHL or WHL because Kenora is much closer to Winnipeg than Thunder Bay. And he ended up going to the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL. It bares the question on what to do with Northwestern Ontario. Create its own league, have them join the OHL, or the WHL. But anyway, that puts why I won't be including anything west of Thunder Bay even though I normally would. I am also leaving out places like Plymouth because it's deemed a team I want there.
Here are the five cities I'd like the OHL to expand.
5. Cornwall, Ontario - They already had a team, but still a great hockey town with rich hockey history.
4. Belleville, Ontario - If they lose their AHL team, I could see OHL returning there in a heartbeat. I feel Belleville isn't a city for an AHL team as it's more for an OHL team.
3. Toledo, Ohio - Currently home to the Toledo Walleye, but ECHL is an unpredictable league and you never know who stays or goes. But if the Walleye decide for whatever reason they need to relocate, I think they could be an excellent place for an OHL team.
2. Timmins, Ontario - The reason it will likely not happen is due to the highways. But I feel it's the perfect place for an OHL team. They have a good population and I already know they love hockey out there.
1. Chatham-Kent - I would call them the Chatham-Kent Twins and the reason for this is because they're twin cities. But a small city that is between various OHL cities like London, Sarnia, and Windsor which gives some teams a break in between. Also adds for another option.
