5 Rules I'd love to see be added to the NHL

The NHL have added and removed rules from the NHL. It had been happening over a long period of time, but it's still an ongoing process that hockey has provided to seek ways to improve the best sport on earth. But here are ten I'd love to see. One thing I miss is the 1-8 rather than seeing two 1-3's and two wild card spots.

1. Have short-handed goals end the man-advantage:

- I like this idea a lot because it means there will be a lot more competition on the ice making the game a lot more entertaining. It'll motivate the team on the penalty kill play with more energy to make sure there's a huge reward for getting a short-handed goal.

2. A goaltending line-like crease that's extended to where no opposing players shall enter:

- Now I think a little line around the goaltending that's two inches offset from the crease should be added. The purpose for this is to be sure if any away player puts a skate on that line it is deemed goaltender interference. I like this idea because it would reduce goaltender interference penalties and injuries to goalies; but more importantly concussions. It would also make for goal reviews to be a lot easier to determine a 'good goal' and 'no goal' which means play can go on rather than drama and arguing. We can already tell off-sides with the blue line, this could work as well. But teammates are allowed to enter the goaltenders crease. Because most fights happen when a goaltender is interfered with, and goalies should be allowed to feel safe. But I think on top of this rule, to be sure nobody gets confused, I think the player should be allowed to hit the puck as long as they're not in the goalies crease, but if the stick hits the goalie while there's no puck should become goaltender interference; but say if it was a set up play and the player faked it where he scores and hits the goalie with his stick it would become no goal. I think it makes the game a lot more fair and not one-sided.

3. A decision between a penalty shot and a powerplay:

- A unique and different rule, some may hate it but this is how I'd propose it. The play should start with if it's a penalty four minutes or more unless it's a 10-minute misconduct or say both teams get penalized. But the reason I'd like to see this is because it'd make the games more interesting, but also give a limit as per which team uses these similar to time-outs. But it would also make the game more interesting, similar to a coach challenging a goal. But it also could reduce four-minute penalties from happening which is why I like the rule because less players getting unnecessarily hurt.

4. Have shootout goals count as goals:

- Well, I think a noted stat at least should be the amount of shootout goals a season. But if they were to count as goals, to make it fair for the goalies, along with penalty shots, they should only add a .2 to the goalies stats for goals against average given there's five players on the ice for the team. And when it's a penalty shot it's one player so it doesn't make the goalies look bad considering it's the amount of goals let in. I also think it'd make things a lot more interesting.

5. Teams get to choose which player goes to the box if the player gets ejected.

- I like this idea because if a player is hurt or injured from an illegal play and the player isn't serving the penalty due to an ejection. But because not just the player but also the team is hurt from the injury as it could be long term, I think it'd be fair for the team to choose which player from the other team heads to the box. I think what makes it so great is it'll decrease not just injuries, but possibly power-plays which makes the game a lot more competitive while being respectful. I think it'd be cool to see if the team chooses their best penalty killer or best forward to be sure their two-man advantage is a successful one. I also think it could be a lot more entertaining to have this happen. I think the crowds would love to see it or be on their seats to see which player were to be selected if this was to happen. I'd also be good for a Too Many Men penalty.
