KAPRIZOV TURNED DOWN THE BIGGEST OFFER IN HISTORY!!!
Bill Guerin, there's no judging you here considering you did everything you could. Let's just hope you dodged a ball here because I wouldn't have offered him this deal but like you did on the ice, gave everything you could just like your two Stanley Cups.
I could see why Kaprizov turned this deal down, as in Minnesota he'd be receiving about $8 Million after taxes, but the thing is if he wanted to play somewhere tax friendly he wouldn't be getting that kind of deal. Now this opens speculation on where he ends up.
Now, one big wild card is Dubai getting an expansion KHL team and I think that team will be the big difference maker in the KHL if it does indeed happen. I see lots of NHL stars ending up there for more money which makes the KHL a more attractive league. That being said, this is why I could see Kaprizov ending up there if given a high pay.
But let's get real, and I'm not talking about Kirill Kaprizov. I'm talking about where he likely gets traded to because I think the Wild can fetch a large haul but the other thing here is he has a no-trade. But I also think Minnesota misses the playoffs and are bound to be one of the worst teams in the league this season. But if I'm Bill Guerin my asking price for Karpizov is two first-round picks, two second-round picks, two prospects and maybe a roster player/cap dump -- in that ballpark.
1. Carolina - Carolina has all the assets to trade for him, I think they're going to be a top-tier contender and potentially cup favourites. I could see the Hurricanes sending their 1st in 2026, 1st 2027, 2nd 2027, 3rd 2027, Bradley Nadeau, Dominik Badinka, Jasperi Kotkoniemi, and Minnesota retains 50% of Kaprizov's salary. Kaprizov in the Hurricane's top six pretty much makes them the most offensive threat in the league, and if I'm Eric Tulsky I consider doing this. But I think this trade guarantees the Hurricanes winning the Stanley Cup.
2. Utah Mammoth - I don't see it being the first choice because they share the same division as Minnesota, but what is to be considered is they have the assets and a team eager to contend. I think Utah signing Kaprizov will put them in a position to contend and I think they'll make something work for both parties there. They have two first-rounders in both 2026 and 2027, they have the prospects, and they totally have the contracts to move.
3. Montreal Canadiens - Resigning him there is a huge question mark, but Montreal doesn't just have assets but also the space for him on this team. But this would be a move I'd go after if I'm Montreal because with the defense of Lane Hutson and Noah Dobson they'd likely help Kaprizov score more goals given their playing style. This is something I think Montreal should experiment with.
4. Vegas Golden Knights - Totally not resigning him if he does get traded there, but Vegas has the exact assets for acquiring Karpizov. I also think Kaprizov also may put it as a top destination.
5. Los Angeles Kings - I see them signing him long-term and giving the Minnesota Wild the exact assets for Kaprizov to remain in their playoff contention. But I see Los Angles doing it.
Now, these are the two teams I could see Kaprizov ending up playing for, which are based off the cap space and in Kaprizov's interest. Some question why leave Florida and Tampa out, and that answer is simply due to them not having the space along with a set blueprint as they got the right wingers and left wingers. But these are the teams I see him signing with if he heads to Free Agency.
1. Nashville Predators - I think he gets the contract he wants and he would likely get what he wants on the ice such as the specific ice-time and line-mates. Now, I don't think Nashville trades for him because they're not only a rival of the Minnestoa Wild, but will likely be a team that misses the playoffs.
2. New York Rangers - I don't just see this being ideal, but this would be a team Kaprizov would totally sign with. I think this brings promise for the Rangers to be a competitve team again.
So, some say Chicago but the reason I don't see it is that you gotta think Chicago is going to do what they did last time with their contracts which left no room causing them to suck? They cannot do that with Bedard, and speaking of he's going to need a contract. That's why I don't think Kaprizov ends up there. But who knows, maybe I'm totally wrong.
