Team Canada hockey invitees - Men and Women's

So today, they released the players invited to Team Canada for the Men's and Women's Hockey teams.

We're going to start with the Women's hockey team.

Forwards are Emily Clark, Sarah Fillier, Jennifer Gardener, Julia Gosling, Brianne Jenner, Caitlin Kraemer, Emma Maltais, Hannah Miller, Kristen O'Neill, Sarah Nurse, Marie-Philip Poulin, Danielle Serdachny, Natalie Spooner, Laura Stacey, Blayre Turnbull, and Daryl Watts.

Defense consists of Erin Ambrose, Renata Fast, Nicole Gosling, Sophie Jaques, Jocelyne Larocque, Chloe Primerano, Ella Shelton, Kati Tabin, Claire Thompson, and Micah Zandee-Hart.

Goaltenders are Ann-Renee Desbiens, Eve Gascon, Emerance Maschmeyer, and Kayle Osbourne.

So, lots of good players have been left off most notably Jessie Eldridge who I believe could be a great addition later on. Corinne Schroeder was another who if you ask me is one of the most underrated goaltenders in the PWHL and I think both those players are going to turn a lot of heads with PWHL Seattle. But here are my picks:

Forwards:

Clark-Poulin-Fillier

Spooner-Watts-Eldridge

Miller-Nurse-Matlais

Kraemer-Stacey-Gardener

Defense:

Shelton-Fast

Ambrose-Jaques

Thompson-Primerano

Gosling

Goaltenders

Desbiens

Schroeder

Osbourne

This is what I would pick if I was coaching Team Canada at the Women's Olympic Games.

Now, we move onto the Men's hockey team.

The forwards consist of Connor Bedard, Sam Bennett, Quinton Byfield, Macklin Celebrini, Anthony Cirelli, Sidney Crosby, Brandon Hagel, Bo Horvat, Zach Hyman, Seth Jarvis, Wyatt Johnson, Travis Konecny, Nathan MacKinnon, Brad Marchand, Mitch Marner, Connor McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Brayden Point, Sam Reinhart, Mark Scheifele, Mark Stone, Nick Suzuki, John Tavares, Robert Thomas, Carter Verhaeghe, and Tom Wilson.

Defenseman consist of Evan Bouchard, Noah Dobson, Drew Doughty, Aaron Ekblad, Thomas Harley, Cale Makar, Brandon Montour, Josh Morrissey, Colton Parayko, Travis Sanheim, Shea Theodore, Devon Toews, and Mackenize Weegar.

And finally our goaltenders which are Adin Hill, Jordan Binnington, and Sam Montembeault.

Lots of really good players have been left off this roster, but most importantly goaltending such as Logan Thompson, Dougie Hamilton, Darcy Kuemper, Gabe Vilardi, and Mackenzie Blackwood. The big issue about this team is how Peter DeBoer is an assistant coach, and not the first to be unemployed since Ken Hitchcock was assistant after being fired after bringing Columbus into their first playoff appearance before winning gold; the only thing Hitchcock has that DeBoer doesn't is awards. I think Paul Maurice should've been added to the coaching staff after a long NHL coaching career and back-to-back cups, but I'm not in charge. But these would be my picks for Team Canada:

Forwards:

Marner-McDavid-Reinhart

Celebrini-Crosby-Bedard

Point-MacKinnon-Scheifele

Hagel-Bennett-Jarvis

Cirelli

Defensemen:

Morrissey-Makar

Theodore-Dobson

Parayko-Ekblad

Doughty

Goaltenders:

Binnington

Hill

Thompson

There's a lot people question. But for starters I think I don't need to answer why I'd add Logan Thompson and so many right-hand shot players on the left wing, well I picked who I believe to be the best players. Yes, Celebrini and Bedard are young, but I think they are not just the perfect additions to this Canada roster, but them being on a line with Crosby will not just benefit their futures but they'll light it up for Canada. I know people question why I didn't add Mark Stone, and the answer to this is there are way better players than him. I think Scheifele on this team is a solid plus, given he's super competitive and is the one to carry a team up the mountain when needed. And I know lots question Ekblad and Dobson, but I think Dobson will have a Norris-caliber season with Montreal where we see his highest potential. Ekblad simply because he's gritty enough to help this team win.
