Standings 2025-26 and predicting the awards
Metro
1. Carolina Hurricanes - I think they built themselves a solid team of players who want to win in line with the forwards, defense and goaltending.
2. New Jersey - They have a great team and I think their foundation is playoff stable.
3. Columbus Blue Jackets - I think they sneak up on a lot of people this year and believe they're going to be a force to be reckoned with.
4. Washington Capitals - I think they go all-in for Ovi's final season in the NHL by trying to win it all for him.
-
5. New York Islanders - I think they're going to be a super competitive team hungry to survive the regular season going into the playoffs.
6. New York Rangers - Unsure about them, but they're not just in a tough division, still a good team but all the other teams will likely outplay them.
7. Philadelphia Flyers - They have a good team, but I think this team needs a lot of experience before going into full win mode. I think Tocchet teaches the team how to win before making a big boom into the future.
8. Pittsburgh Penguins - The Penguins likely go into full-rebuild mode 2026-27, and this will be the start of it. Malkin has announced it'd be his final season and I think this story of the Penguins dynasty gets wrapped up at the end.
Atlantic
1. Ottawa - Presidents Trophy Winners is what I predict for them as they got all the bases loaded in every single position which is what you love to see, and I see them making big moves at the deadline to show they're not playing around.
2. Tampa Bay - Still one of the best teams in the league and Kucherov will bring them to the post-season. Still in their competitive prime, but they make the most of it to be sure if the window closes on them next season that they know all the effort has been put into being a top team.
3. Florida - Still one of the best teams in the league, and will be a team that's not playing around. They are the team I am completely certain will be in the playoffs.
4. Montreal - I think they're going to be one of the best teams in the league with the speed and strength.
-
5. Toronto - I think this season it'll show losing Marner will set the team back, still a good team but lack goaltending.
6. Detroit - I think they show the battle they have in them and fight for a playoff spot, problem is their older, inexperienced and not as good.
7. Boston - Losing Marchand will show how much it'll cost the team.
8. Buffalo - One of the worst teams in the league and won't be coming back from it. But also in a tough division.
Central
1. Winnipeg - I think Hellebuyck puts the team on his back again this season, and they still have good defense and offense.
2. Utah - I think they become a much more competitive team that's hungry and ready to win. Also, they added some very big experienced names and their top six is some of the solidest in the NHL.
3. Dallas - I do believe they're a great team, but I think Gulutzan sets them back.
4. Chicago - With Spencer Knight in net, defense improved, and offense a lot better I think they make their first playoff appearance in the Bedard era.
-
5. Colorado - MacKinnon and Makar will carry them, but I don't think they can do it like they used to. The losses they had were significant blows. But I think their playoff window is still open.
6. St. Louis - Good team, but in a tough division.
7. Minnesota - Still a good team, but in a tough division and I think losing Fleury will be a huge factor.
8. Nashville - I think the team will remain to be awful and will be selling everybody at the deadline.
Pacific
1. Vegas - The Marner addition has improved their offense, and at the deadline I think they snag some of the biggest names available.
2. Anaheim - I think they become the most improved team, Quenneville redeems himself and shows that they're still a good team.
3. Edmonton - I think there's going to be some tension if McDavid doesn't sign, still a good team but I think it's another usual season for the Oilers.
4. Vancouver - I think the moves they made this off-season brought a lot of momentum in them being a good team again. I think they'll surprise the league a bit, but also you gotta think they're good because Vancouver will want to keep Quinn Hughes long-term.
-
5. San Jose - I still believe they're a good team, but this will be the year where they're going to show what they are made of going into next year.
6. Los Angeles - I think they'll stay competitive, but I also think they're held back and take a beating while also fighting to be competitive.
7. Calgary - I think they're going to sell their players at the deadline given that they're a young team.
8. Seattle - I think they'll be heavily out-coached and fall dead last in the league.
