My thoughts on the Marco Rossi situation, Nazem Kadri, Kaapo Kakko and Yegor Chinakov
I like the contract for Kakko as it gives him the rightful amount of money that's good for both sides that don't disappoint either way. But I think Kakko will have a lot of points for the Seattle Kraken next season and has shown to be a good fit. I think the Rangers drafting Kakko, but solely based on that fact I believe the Rangers to be a team to draft players that need more time given they're a franchise to have been known to succeed by having players develop longer or sign there after proving what they can do in the NHL.
It has been reported Marco Rossi turned down 5 years at $5M AAV. I think he truly wants to be on the right team to prove himself considering Minnesota isn't likely giving him that chance. I do think he has that potential, except he needs the right team and coach. I do think he is a good player, and I think what he wants is a 2 or 3-year deal at $5-7M AAV which I think is quite reasonable. I had a think about it, and remember thinking Minnesota was not my ideal team to take him in the draft. I think if he was drafted on a team that was bad and needed help that'd be ideal given he's one to grow with the core.
I have thought about it a ton, and decided to base it off the coaches and/or team. And these are five teams I believe should:
1. Philadelphia Flyers - The Flyers and Wild making a trade makes the most sense given they're in different conferences, also they have room for Rossi. I also think Rick Tocchet turns him into that player who will benefit the Flyers long-term, and I believe he is that guy who could play great hockey with Matvei Michkov as it has been reported he hates the dump and chase game which Rossi could work with and help Michkov out with. But if not Michkov, I think he and Zegras will be a great offensive dynamo who can both prove it with their style of game.
2. Vancouver Canucks - I think he'd be great for the Canucks top six, given that DeBrusk and Boeser are known for tipping-in pucks as Rossi does have that shot and passing game which can help the Canucks likely get more points. I also feel he'd have great offensive chemistry with Quinn Hughes which can really improve Vancouver's powerplay.
3. Detroit Red Wings - They have the cap space for Rossi, and I think he would be great to play with Larkin, DeBrincat and Raymond. And I think McLellan would be the right coach for Rossi while also giving them an offensive boost.
4. Calgary Flames - They have the cap space, and if the rumours of Kadri being traded are true he might just be the guy to centre Jonathan Huberdeau. The reason I don't see it being as good as the other three is Huska isn't the kind of coach for Rossi and Minnesota being in the same conference as Calgary.
5. Columbus Blue Jackets - I put it last because Dean Evason and him might not have been a good fit, but given Yegor Chinakov has requested a trade out of Minnesota and Rossi going back might make the trade happen as for Minnesota they got Chinakov who Kaprizov would likely build some good chemistry with, which is good for Minnesota given they're in a tough division. I would think Minnesota would need to add a player who would likely get them into a playoff spot.
Speaking of, Yegor Chinakov has requested a trade out of Columbus due to not liking Dean Evason's coaching. Like I said, I think Minnesota may work for him, but we're going to mention four other teams that may work out for him. But before I do, I think Columbus has been holding him back a bit and haven't given him the proper shot he deserves. He has proven it at the AHL level, and I think he can do it at the NHL level. You'd think he may want to stay with all the Russian players there willing to help him, but he plays a unique game that's a bit of physicality and offensive. But if anywhere these are the teams I think would be a great fit -- minus Minnesota -- for Chinakov:
1. Los Angeles Kings - With their core likely leaving and their offense needing improvement, Chinakov going to the Kings might be a great turning point for them.
2. Philadelphia Flyers - I stated above how they should trade for Rossi, but this likely improves their top-six, but even though he's a right-wing he could benefit being on the same team as Michkov.
3. San Jose Sharks - With their top-six I think putting him on the wings of Celebrini or Smith might just be what the Sharks need to get into the next stage.
4. New York Islanders - With the Russian factor and young roster, I think he fits right in with their vets on the ice too. This is the place where I believe could help his game improve.
And finally, we get to Nazem Kadri. I think Kadri would like to stay in Calgary, but I think he gets lots of offers to be traded. It's been rumoured since Marner left Toronto that they may trade for Kadri to take his place, but one team I think should is the New York Rangers to get back into the playoffs. Him going to the Rangers adds a more stable foundation and gives JT Miller the age-range he needs to help a team win.
