NHL Goal Horns, intros, goal songs, thoughts and rankings

There some horns in the NHL that are incredible, iconic, but also... terrible. Some songs are good, some just can't be changed, but some... can. I think Toronto fans can all agree their goal song was horrible. Some intros need improvement, some intros are irreplaceable, some just are bad. These are very unbiased a mix of the big picture and personal opinion. 

 1. Vancouver Canucks - Their horn is iconic and exclusive, and they should never change their goal song because I feel it has it's own signature like Chicago and Chelsea Dagger, similar to how it'd be wrong for another team to use it and should never be changed. But the intro should be 'Streets with no name by U2' like in the playoffs. And their win song should be either 'Ain't talking bout love,' or 'Holiday.'

2. Florida Panthers - One of my favourite horns, but I was disappointed when they changed from 'Sweetness' as that just fit the team well. For true hockey fans, that was iconic for the sake of NHL 03 which some of the players at that time grew up listening to. I still think they should change back to that song instead of a song including a chant. I found Zombie Nation fit well too, their old goal song in the Jay Bouwmeester-era. 

3. Calgary Flames - Lovely hype-up horn, but I think they could better. My pick for their goal song is 'Burn it to the ground by Nickelback, because Nickelback is from Hanna, Alberta which is not far from Calgary. And the fire in the lyrics matches with the Calgary Flames.

4. Chicago Blackhawks - Can never change the horn and take Chelsea Dagger away from it. And they're a team who can pull off switching the intro. 

5. Seattle Kraken - Now... the horn has a good story as it came from a decommissioned ferry known as Hyak. The Kraken decided to carry on its legacy by using the old horn in its memory. But, I don't like the sound of it as Tacoma is a horn with a richer history and a pretty sound that is also iconic to Seattle. That's why I'm not going to go too hard. But, using Nirvana in their goal song is more than iconic, and the fact 'Lithium' has crack -- like Kraken -- in the lyrics just makes it unchangable. But their win song should remain as 'Times Like These.'

6. Vegas Golden Knights - Their intro is by far the best in the league -- after the Canucks playoff intro but the reason Vegas gets the nod is because they'll use it every single home game --  'John Wick Mode' is iconic as hell. Their goal song should never be replaced and satisfied it's not 'Viva Las Vegas.' But their horn shouldn't be the Avalanche horn, I find they need their own and one that's iconic. One that sounds 'golden.' Something with an accent of a royal trumpet like the knights are being honoured which hypes the crowd up more like the intro, because the horn doesn't give me that same vibe. I don't feel it to be iconic and it's one that can be fixed. But the rest, no. 

7. San Jose Sharks - Love how they have Metallica playing as they leave the Shark. Their horn could use work, but I wouldn't change it as it's iconic. Their song isn't the best, but it's also fitting as it gives me Space Jam vibes representing how old the team is. 

8. Edmonton Oilers - The horn is super iconic and fits the team like a glove. But I feel their song needs more intensity and greatness vibe that carries on their rich history. Enter Sandman as their intro is incredible, and they can never change 'La Bamba.' 

9. Montreal Canadiens -  Their intro is iconic, but found when they used, 'Vertigo by U2,' as their goal song it build a calm but exciting hype. 

10. Utah Mammoth - This horn is unique to its own and the song brings on the hype. 

11. Boston Bruins - Hate the Bruins, but don't change the song or horn. They go well together. 

12. Winnipeg Jets - Iconic horn that goes back to the 1.0 days, but the song should be changed back to 'Hell Yeah,' although 'Runnin' Wild' I thought was a way better fit as when the Manitoba Moose played in the Calder Cup finals in 2009 that was the intro and goal song. But 'Learn to Fly,' as their goal song should never be changed as it brings up the vibe in Canada Life Centre to a sky high. Their intro of 'Highway To The Danger Zone,' should always be the intro no matter what. But John Wick could work too. 

13. Minnesota Wild - Iconic horn, but they gotta keep the same iconic intro. Although, their goal horn should be Prince and only Prince. 

14. Nashville Predators - Iconic song and horn that is working, but when they feel it's right to change it then I say so. 

15. Colorado Avalanche - Keep the horn, keep the song, it's working well for them and matches the vibe. But I think it'd be cool to have 'All The Small Things,' as their goal or win song. The fans chanting the song was iconic. 

16. New York Rangers - Their goal horn and song and everything else can never be changed. Goals at MSG are some of the most memorable even if it's not the nicest goal. 

17. Columbus Blue Jackets - Great sports town, but the cannon and OSU energy brought into Nationwide Arena by the fans give it a nice great hype. The horn is not my favourite, but the song I'd change to something not as soft. It needs something more electric.

18. New Jersey Devils - Their horn is iconic as is their intro. But the song should be something that gives it more of that dark and intense vibe. 

19. Los Angeles Kings - Not a fan of the horn, but love for how it fits the team. Don't like or hate the song, but it works. 

20. New York Islanders - The intro isn't iconic, but they don't have much history with intros. Their horn isn't my favourite nor is the song, but it's irrelevant to change it. 

21. Washington Capitals - Their intro is great, their horn not my favourite but cannot be changed as the sirens are iconic. The song being changed would work, but my pick would be something by 'Fall Out Boy,' but my pick is, 'Immortals.' I think that song with the horn, and showing how Washington DC is a country respected by Americans and how their leaders feel like Immortals, and since Ovechkin the Capitals have built a rich history. This in my opinion could be a good chant, 'Immortals, Immortals.' 

22. Pittsburgh Penguins - Great horn that is super iconic and is the sound of Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr, Ron Francis, Paul Coffey, Bryan Trottier, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and many other legends and HHOFers scoring. That's why the horn should never ever be changed, but the song needs a more brighter and golden road sound like a new legacy is going to continue on with that horn. But disliked them using 'Seek and Destory' as their intro because San Jose should be the only team in the league allowed to use it!

23. Buffalo Sabres - Their horn is legendary and has been there since 'MAYDAY!' That's why it's one of the landmark horns in the league similar to Pittsburgh, Toronto, Boston, etc. The song has changed over the years, but I believe they will find it one day just like how Chicago found 'Chelsea Dagger.' Their intro is still good, but we never hear the win horn anymore. 

24. Tampa Bay Lightning - Great horn, can't be changed, their intro is sick, but one thing is their song isn't good or bad, but it gives off that vibe of relaxing in Florida while watching a hockey game. 

25. Philadelphia Flyers - Love how they use Metallica in their intro, their songs rotate, but their horn is a different tone of Boston, Toronto, St. Louis and Tampa which makes it unique to its own. 

26. St. Louis Blues - I think they should change both their horn and song, mainly because it's similar to Toronto and Tampa's which are more iconic to them than theirs. If I had to give them a horn something that no team has used before, and a song shouldn't have a piano something that builds up more hype for their team. Their intro could be better, but using 'Gloria' should never be taken away. 

27. Detroit Red Wings - They fixed their horn and it sounds not as iconic as Yzerman's goals back in Joe Louis Arena. Now, not a fan of Eminem but it doesn't hurt to make his music their goal song. 

28. Toronto Maple Leafs - I think their horn should never be changed, 

29. Dallas Stars - Iconic horn, but the song needs to change to something that's an actual song rather than a chant like Florida. 

30. Carolina Hurricanes - Never change that horn as it's iconic, but the song needs to change as I found Avicii was the perfect song for them, but I'd make their song 'Rock You Like A Hurricane.'

31. Anaheim Ducks - Also an iconic horn, but it's weak. The song can stay as it's iconic, but if I had to change it a song from Mighty Ducks may sell. It is one horn I'd change, but I'd say Thrashers or a horn from a Navy Ship. 

32. Ottawa Senators - I believe their horn to be an iconic signature, but they should change it. Keep the song though. But I'd change their horn to the Thrashers goal horn because it was a favourite by NHL fans which I'd love to see make a comeback.
