If I bought the Vancouver Canucks

If I'm being completely honest, the Aqualini's are the worst owners in the NHL since Eugene Melnyk -- may he rest in peace. But, if I was a billionare, I'd buy the Vancouver Canucks. The changes I'd make are significant. As personally, I do believe the Canucks can be a very good organization.

But here are the problems:

1. Vancouver is EXPENSIVE!!!

2. They don't have a training facility. They currently practice at University of British Columbia, which isn't terrible but I think they need a designated practice facility.

3. The arena is outdated.

4. Concession prices are stupid expensive.

5. They needed to rebuild as early as 2012; but honestly if it was me I'd have kept the team competitive until the Sedins officially retired. But what ruined the Canucks was the Luongo/Schneider debate, which got so complicated that it led to both of them being traded as there was no real answer. But the problem here was they should've kept the team competitive. Keep Cory Schneider and trade Luongo, because honestly Bo Horvat is a good player but I found him to be a poor fit for the Canucks and wasn't that good of a captain. That being said, trading for Horvat was pointless. I think they could've had decent playoff runs from 2014-2019 had they kept Schneider over Luongo. And after the Sedins retire, they start their rebuild slowly after 2019. I mean, Quinn Hughes or Elias Pettersson wouldn't have been Canucks, but it likely leads to them drafting Bedard and Celebrini, two Vancouver boys.

6. Ownership. Management was never a problem, Dave Nonis did really well in his tenure with the Canucks. They also had some really good coaches, but coaches can become the ones they put the blame on. But the team is super poorly run, in fact I think they should be better ran. I think them firing Vigneault was a terrible call who brought them to their best records in their entire franchises history while also replacing him with Tortorella who was a bad fit for their core.

7. Fans leave the games too early. I think it's dumb considering they can take a SkyTrain or a SeaBus and still make it to and from home safely after the game, or even park in a parking lot close to a SkyTrain station.

8. I'd put nine, but that number is bad luck for the Canucks if you ask me as their most infamous players have worn that number. But, they haven't been that good at drafting players.

Now how do I solve these problems if I owned the team?

So, my plan would be for the Canucks would be to partner with UBC to build a brand new arena for the UBC Thunderbirds while also plotting the idea for a WHL team to be located there whether it be the Vancouver Giants or an expansion team. The arena would consist of a shared training and practice facility for all their other athletics such as football, baseball, soccer, etc. But to make it more appealing, build condos, hotels, or university housing that could be shared with the Canucks for players that get called up from Abbotsford. The other idea that could work but isn't ideal, would be to build a facility in Surrey so if players were called up from Abbotsford it wouldn't be a headache to be called up and drive to practice as it'd be a half-way point.

I'd renovate Rogers Arena starting by putting in brand new seats that are easy to clean. I'm sure there's more. But I'd also reduce the cost of concessions by 75% and increase ticket prices by 50% because more food would be sold and none goes to waste, as the price of admission would make it worth it because the fans all go buy food down at the Costco food court. The Atlanta Falcons do it at Mercedez-Benz Stadium, Vancouver is already expensive so the cheap cost of food would likely bring it down. Season ticket holders would get a 25% discount on both food and tickets. I think it'd be great considering it'd likely keep fans at the game until the very end as they'd be buying more and more food until the game potentially ends while also not going into the garbage.

I'd take over as President of the Vancouver Canucks while taking on general manager and head scouting duties. I'd put most of the money into scouting across the world. I'd trade players mostly for draft picks and prospects, on the side find the right people who can develop players to their best abilities while also finding the perfect leader for the team. Basically starting fresh and keeping a healthy team in terms of less toxicity. I want the players to be here, not so much be grateful to make it into the NHL. Hire two new Assistant General Managers.

I'd make sure the players would be more active in the community whereas they can help grow the game to new fans and make memories that'll likely last a lifetime.

I put a lot of thought into this considering I would attend every Canucks game and would stay to the very end. But I also believe the Canucks do deserve a Stanley Cup.
