Best players in the NHL by position 2024-25

In my opinion as of today.

Left Wing - Kyle Connor: Amazing skating and drive to the net. I know Hellebuyck is the best player on his team, but the offensive abilities he has

Centre - Connor McDavid: If he was playing in the 80's, he'd probably be better than Gretzky. He's so impressive that you just can't stop him and even the best coaches won't judge you. He has an incredible teammate in Leon Draisaitl, and whenever he sees McDavid has an opportunity... he just gives him the puck and lets him do all the work. I mean it was at one point McDavid's goalscoring wasn't the best, but he worked on it and got 64 goals. But aside from points, awesome leader and incredible athlete. Some might say he isn't a team player, but what's

Right Wing - Nikita Kucherov: What amazes me about him is that he manages to always find ways to put up points, and is so good at it that his teammates will only have thirty or more less points than him because he's so well ahead of it. Not the most flashy guy, but silently and quietly creeps his way up the rankings.

Left Defenseman - Quinn Hughes - A very dedicated hockey player, and sure he isn't the one to throw hits but he's also one of those players to put their brains into not just being better but using their talents properly. He always looks for ways to climb up the mountain in ways that are more efficient than the Grouse Grind -- Vancouverites will get that reference -- and get by while also helping the team in whatever way he can. He's another one of those players who doesn't take a lot of credit for the things he does, and he sure does a lot if you consider he puts up a lot of points.

Right Defenseman - Cale Makar - Not my most favourite defenseman, but I can't deny how incredible he is. The guy can do it all, but the other thing to be put into consideration is he has Nathan MacKinnon to work with who is one of the best players in the world. Now, if Makar had McDavid, I personally believe McDavid gets 200 points a season and whichever team they're both on they likely win more Stanley Cups. But there's no denying he's winning the Norris this season. After all, there's a reason the Avs won the cup in 2022. If it weren't for Cale, Tampa Bay would've pulled off the three-peat.

Goaltender - Connor Hellebuyck: If you ask me who the best goaltender in the NHL is, it's easily Connor Hellebuyck. He has a unique skill that isn't too flashy, he's the kind who will always find a way to make a save and tries to not get cocky. He's already on pace to be one of the greatest goaltenders of all-time, but I think he's the smartest goalie of all-time and has such a big passion for the game. He was only noticed as one-year past his draft year in the NAHL. Now, I don't know what Connor would do, but had he been drafted to the OHL I think he would've been drafted as low as third round, or as high as top twenty. But as irrelevant as it is now, just goes to show you how not all the best players make the NHL. But his father said himself he'd be looking at the players sticks and wondered why he wasn't looking at goalie equipment. Connor told him he wanted to memorize all those blades so he knew exactly how to make that save. Even not going to hockey camps because he didn't want his game to be changed because he just knew.
