2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs predictions and thoughts

 I'm a neutral hockey fan. I will pick teams I want to win while also picking teams who I think will win whether I like it or not. I mean, I'll also admit there are teams I don't like either such as Vegas for obvious reasons. But anyway, I am going to mention in the predictions who I want to win while also mention who I think will actually win. But my pick this year for who I want to win is the Winnipeg Jets because they have an amazing fanbase, their economy is based around the Jets, Canada should win a cup again and Winnipeg doing it would be amazing considering they're the smallest NHL city.

East

Atlantic

Toronto vs Ottawa - Prediction: Ottawa in 6 - I think Ottawa is going to be quite competitive, and they are also the tougher of the two. They also have the edge in defense, offense, and goaltending. As for Toronto, they have lots of offense, but their defensive side isn't always the best compared to Ottawa.

Preference to win: Ottawa

Tampa Bay vs Florida - Prediction: Florida in 7 - Both of them are good teams, they're pretty much even in terms of offense, defense, and goaltending. In fact, this is fighting fire with fire. But I give the edge to Florida because they seem to have a more competitive edge than 

Preference to win: may the best man win

Metro

Washington vs Montreal - I seriously think they pull an upset here. Washington had a big season where they managed to challenge Winnipeg for the president's trophy, but what I've seen out of them since Ovechkin has reached the goal scoring record is that they're out of juice. Montreal just looks hungry and I know after this season Montreal will be a force to be reckoned with. 

Preference to win: Montreal

Carolina vs New Jersey - Prediciton to win: Carolina in 5 - New Jersey has been beaten up pretty bad this season, Carolina on the other hand has more energy and firepower. 

Preference to win: Carolina

West

Central

Winnipeg vs St. Louis - Prediction: Blues in 7 - Winnipeg had their best season ever, I love to see that for a city that just loves hockey. But the Blues have shown me a similar thing that I've seen in 2019 which was how they came from the basement and up the stairs into the playoffs. I also find teams with less pressure do better. 

Preference: Winnipeg

Dallas vs Colorado: Prediction - Colorado in 4 - Dallas has been awful lately, and I don't see them making into the second round. But, I think Dallas will use it as motivation for next year to be better. Also. MacKinnon and Makar are big factors as to why I believe they bring Colorado into the second round. 

Preference: Dallas

Pacific

Vegas vs Minnesota - Prediction: Vegas in 7 - Minnesota being a good team will give Vegas a run at their money, but Vegas has more firepower. 

Preference: Minnesota - Would be nice to see Fleury beat the team who did him dirty.

Los Angeles vs Edmonton: Prediction: Edmonton in 7 - Edmonton has the edge in the series with offense and defense, but I think Darcy Kuemper stands on his head for the Kings bringing them into seven games. But Edmonton goes into the second round. 

Preference: May the best man win -- I like to call this series 'The Gretzky Bowl.'

Cup finals prediction: Florida beats St. Louis in five games. 

Hopeful prediction: Winnipeg beats Florida in seven games.

Dakota Joshua traded to Toronto

Where do I begin... maybe that I wrote how he was one of the underrated players in the NHL. Except the thing is it's no longer Vancouver. Now, for all I know maybe Dakota Joshua wanted out, but this return is beyond brutal and unacceptable by the Canucks. With Toronto, I think we'll see Dakota Joshua's true potential as he truly is an underrated player who can do a lot more than your average hockey fan thinks. Vancouver getting a forth for Joshua, this is just like the Silovs trade but maybe worse given they were key players for the Canucks. If I'm trading Dakota Joshua away I'm expecting something as high as a second-round pick and a player with a good contract.  As for Toronto, this is an excellent pick-up for the Leafs and this is going to improve their penalty kill a lot which in my opinion is something that could use work this off-season. Toronto is the clear winner of the trade.

The curious case of Elias Pettersson

I think Elias Pettersson is still a good player who can return to his full form one day and still has potential to be an offensive threat in the NHL. Based on what I've seen he does work hard, but there's parts he needs to learn to improve his game. He was well on track once upon a time, but I think locker room issues soured things for him last season. It may take one or two seasons, but I think he has a similar comeback Marcus Naslund did.  Pettersson had an outstanding season before they brought JT Miller in. In Miller's defense, he was not one for a young core but needed to be on a team he could do a lot more on. But if the Canucks never traded for Miller I think Pettersson would've been the producer every single season. In 2019-20 he finished second in scoring after JT Miller; in the playoffs that year in the bubble, he and JT Miller both tied the lead in team scoring with eighteen points. PWHL Draft First-Round Recap and Predicting the 2026 PWHL Season

 The third ever PWHL Draft had happened recently held at the Hard Rock Casino and Resort in Ottawa, Ontario, which was special considering they introduced two new teams: PWHL Vancouver and PWHL Seattle, both of which held the final picks of the draft.  1. New York Sirens -  Kristýna Kaltounková - F - Colgate University - A consistent point producer from the Czech Repbulic, the Sirens took what is believed to be the best player in this draft. Can be looked to either make plays and has a promising shot bringing what is believed to be a long PWHL career. What  Kaltounková also has in her game is height which is a huge advantage in this sport. I think this pick instantly improves the Sirens and gives Sarah Fillier a line-mate for a long time. 2.
